


Aronia Berry (Aronia melanocarpa)
The Aronia Berry (Aronia melanocarpa) aka the Black Chokeberry. Native to Eastern North America from Canada, west to Minnesota down to Alabama and Georgia. This deciduous shrub grows to an approximate height between 3-8’ and three feet wide and of thrives in a variety of conditions. Full sun (six or more hours of direct sunlight) to part shade in well drained soil. Found in the wild growing in boggy wetland to well drained soil hillsides. In spring it produces beautiful white and pinkish flowers that are self fertile. The addition of a “pollinator partner” (another Aronia), will aid in the increase of viable fruit. Fruit produced between May-April. In the summer months it produces the super dark purple berries that birds and humans have favorited, tart with a bit of sweet. High in antioxidents, these nutrient dense berries are an added food bonus to your landscape. It boasts vibrant fall foliage, attracts pollinators.
